Overview

The Hirudinean are leech/snake-like beings travelling through space to find hosts to infest. It is a specialized race, one that has evolved to consume any available resources.

History

They are a race thousands of years old, having been in the Milky Way since at least 2934 B.C. They originated in another galaxy and are reportedly this universe's first natural predators, being experimented on by the Khreeunds and having established Queen Nesting Tanks on hundreds of worlds across the cosmos. The Hirudinean society consists of clans led by queens, with each Queen Mother competing for supreme leader.

They are not just savage, they intentionally enjoy the suffering they cause to others, especially the terror their possession causes to their hosts, and as such they have been compared to demons.

In 2934 B.C., a Hirudinean invasion occurred in Ancient Egypt on Eden. Pharaoh Qa'a (also Qáa or Ka'a), ruler of the Upper and Lower Kingdoms of Kemet was possessed by a Hirudinean, and ruled for 34 years. The invasion was thwarted in 2900 B.C. by Anubis, Hor'us and his twin sister, Hat'hor (both of whom were being groomed to become the next rulers).

Reproduction & Control

The Hirudinean cannot reproduce on their own. All members of their species come from a Queen Mother. There are several Queen Mothers in the universe and each one is at odds with the others. The Queen Mother can asexually generate small live Hirudinean from its own body. The young are netted by host-slaves and placed in the Great Pool where all newborn are cared for and fed. Once they reach a certain age the Hirudinean can attach themselves to a victim's face, plowing through the eye of the host, and replacing it with its own eye. The Hirudinean tail has one sharp claw at the tip end to spear through the eye and wiggle its way into the center divide of the brain. The tail then continues down until it can dig its tail claw into the spinal cord, thereby hacking the central nervous system. The Hirudinean will communicate telepathically to each other when it has positioned itself correctly. The Hirudinean can communicate telepathically with the Queen Mother but only with emotions. For instance, the Queen Mother can call her "children" home or they can feel if she is in danger, but once attached to a host, the telepathic link to other Hirudinean is vague. They can feel if a being is possessed by a fellow Hirudinean, and can even tell if they are from the same Queen Mother. When the Hirudinean possesses someone they latch onto the brain and central nervous system, subsequently taking control of both their mind and body. Sometimes, the Hirudinean will tell the victim/host to wear an eye-patch to stay hidden on the superior or dominant race on any planet it is invading. The Hirudinean can maintain control over its victim/host for the rest of the host's life, forcing them to obey their every whim, even if it goes against the nature of the selected target. This ability only works so long as the Hirudinean maintains physical contact with its victim. Once the Hirudinean is removed, the victim regains control of their mind and motor function once again. The victim/host will have nausea, headaches, fatigue, dizziness, migraines, or heavy drowsiness.

Habitat

While their homeworld no longer exists, the Hirudinean continually seek out worlds that contain elements that will make it the perfect habitat. The conditions they are looking for, and therefore the areas they are most likely to invade first, are:

Tropical: Worlds/Areas that are, at minimum, 12% covered with water, the rest tropical.

Atmosphere: Minimum 90% of Eden density, with high oxygen content.

Cultural Traits

Warrior culture, utterly savage, driven solely by hunger and domination.

Type of Government: The Hirudinean follow an absolute matriarchy type of government, a hive monarchy with clans.

Level of Technology: Highly advanced. Their knowledge and expertise does not die with them. They have a generational hive mind that allows them to pass on their expertise to the next generation within their DNA. All information is stored by the Queen Mother who imparts it to her offspring in-utero.

Representatives: Queen Mother, Supreme Clan Leaders, Clan Commanders, the rest separate themselves based on the number of hosts they have possessed. The higher the number, the higher your rank in their culture.

Powers

Color Alteration: The Hirudinean can change the color of the skin of its host to (presumably) any color of its choosing. However, the change only lasts as long as the Hirudinean concentrates on it.

Decelerated Aging: The Hirudinean have an average lifespan of 1,000 years.

Energy Absorption and Projection: The Hirudinean can absorb energy and re-channel energy as powerful blasts of raw force. Directing it through its single eye, this ability stems from its ability to withstand and absorb the bioelectric charge host bodies usually generate.

Enhanced Strength: Although not as strong as Drootax, the Hirudinean possessed can lift several hundred pounds.

Flight: It is interesting to note that the Hirudinean are able to achieve flight, outside of their host, by the use of their neck wings. These wings, when occupying a host body, appear as a "butterfly birthmark" surrounding the host's eye.

Mind Control: The Hirudinean can mentally influence an ordinary human with relative ease.

____Remote Mental Influence: The Hirudinean can still influence a previous host from a distance, but the longer it has been since the separation the harder the remote influence becomes.

Power Distribution: The Psaurions, after an attempted invasion by the Hirudinean, experimented on some Hirudinean leading to the decimation of the Hirudinean homeworld. The Psaurions bolstered the natural abilities of the host; making them tougher, stronger and amping any special powers they have, while possessed. This means any meta-mutant powers will be enhanced while possessed.

Regeneration: Despite its immense resilience and energy absorption capabilities, the Hirudinean are still susceptible to physical injury if dealt enough damaging force. The Hirudinean are capable of physiological regenesis in the likely event of suffering severe abrasion, but the healing steals life energy from the host, so the Hirudinean may be able to heal from a fatal wound, but at the cost of the host's life.

Abilities

Adaptability: The Hirudinean can adapt to nearly any environment, rapidly possessing hosts and using them to eat/drain/absorb the planet's magnetic energy and all other life in order to feed their starships in order to conquer other planets.

Weaknesses

Bowen Force Mental Lightning: Any conduit of the Bowen Force is immune to possession of the Hirudinean as the mental "lightning" in their brains is too powerful and can fry them instantly.

Lead: The Hirudinean Energy Blasts are unusable against lead.

King Father: An artifact created by the Khreeunds in order to command the Hirudinean. As of this report, this artifact is in legend only and there is no information on how it works or where it is located.

The Hirudinean Toxin: A rather caustic solution germinated to act as a deterrent against the Hirudinean species, created by a civilization of Hirudinean hunters who fell to ruin eons ago. This brew was devised for the specific purpose of rendering these cosmic leeches harmless, severing whatever control they possess on an unwilling host.

Vulnerability to Cold: One key weakness in the Hirudinean is their vulnerability to cold. If a human is cryogenically frozen, the cold will kill the Hirudinean and the dead snake can be slowly pulled out of the host by its eye-wings. Then the victim can be revived. This means all meta-mutants with Cryokinesis abilities are immune to possession of the Hirudinean.

Vulnerability to Garden Lime: When a possessed member of the elite went to oversee the slaves in Ancient Kemet, a basket full of garden lime, meant for the palace gardens, fell and covered the Hirudinean possessed overseer. Inhaling the lime and tasting it caused the Hirudinean to go into convulsions and forced it out of the host body, where it lay writhing in the garden lime on the ground, until it died of poisoning.
