The bedraggled European Union was the first to come together as world leaders to discuss the possibility of having a policing force that can handle the new surge of meta-mutants. At first they created a task force with state-of-the-art equipment and weapons that they hoped would be enough to curb the enthusiasm of some super-powered individuals bent on committing crimes.

This seemed to work until they went up against Fusion Burn who was not phased by their tactics or weaponry and who killed two service members with radiation poisoning. This brought the need to have a super-powered person on the team in order to make a difference. Fate, however, would step in to help.

In 2042 PB, a being calling themself Merlyn Emrys appeared before the gathered members of the European Union to place before them an offer. If the nations of Europe were to unite with Great Britain to form a new United European Empire, with each nation no longer at war with each other, uniting for the benefit of all; Merlyn Emrys would restore the land of all participating nations to its pre-Reset condition once the "Long Winter" ended, giving these nations a chance to recover and rebuild.

After several months of debate, the European Union agreed to the offer and unite with Great Britain to form a new United European Empire (UEE). The only country to refrain from joining was the Swiss Confederation.

Surprisingly, the United Kingdom agreed to dissolve itself of Tuaisceart Éireann and Scotland, giving them their independence, primarily because the financial hardship of maintaining their economies was too much for the beleaguered kingdom, who reverted to calling themselves the Kingdom of England. Tuaisceart Éireann took this opportunity to regain its freedom, merge back with the Poblacht na hÉireann and become a whole nation once more as the Freed Nation of Éire and Scotland reverted back to its roots, renaming itself Rìoghachd na h-Alba.

Together, these European countries united to form an empire with their new capital being built in the ruins of Athênai in the Ellinikí Dimokratía paying homage to one of the oldest capital cities in the world.

It is there, in 2048 PB, these nations put together a team of super-powered people, each representing a different country, that would be the peace-keeping force needed in this new age. They called them the Meta-International: X (M-I:X), with ten members that will rotate in-n-out as their term limits dictate. Each member serves for ten years before the membership comes up for vote. At which time the leaders of the UEE would cast their votes on who will join this team. With but one exception.

Merlyn Emrys insisted that the being called Princeps Rex would always be a member of M-I:X as this being represented the true spirit of this new United European Empire, with a direct link to the magic of the land.

Merlyn Emrys's other stipulation is that the team be headquartered at an embassy being built for an alien species in order to be sure that even the team members could be safe from persecution by their own kind. This is why M-I:X is headquartered at the newly built embassy compound for the Shi'tha'nar'ians in Suchowola, Rzeczpospolita Polska, the geographical center of Europe.

Today, 10 years after the formation of the United European Empire, the new M-I:X roster has just been approved and the world is about to meet some of them for the first time.

UPDATE:

The Shi'tha'nar'ian Envoy's son, S'hey'an Two-of-Nine, has joined the team roster along with an entity from another dimension named Thunderbird.
The resolution to allow these additions for this rosters term passed the United European Empire by one vote.
It is uncertain if this will carry-over to the next term.
