Renowned nuclear physicist, Dr. Giovanni Striscione, was studying the energy pattern of The Great Burn in his lab in the underground facility beneath The Vatican, when he struck upon a breakthrough. With the help of his partner, Dr. Immane Balestruccio, they quickly input their findings into the simulator and watched as their new findings confirmed the theory they had been working on for almost two years. The Great Burn energy was dimensional energy from the spiritual plane!

Dr. Balestruccio, secretly a spy for the Chinese government, whose real name was Immane Scemo, immediately contacted his superiors who sent back orders to confiscate all the data, destroy all the computers, and kill Dr. Giovanni Striscione!

As Balestruccio carried out the first part of his orders he was interrupted by Giovanni who tackled him, launching them both into the test chamber where the mini-Hadron Collider was stored and primed with their recent data, for a demonstration for the Pope in the morning.

The two men scuffled, knocking into computers and machinery, accidentally activating the Collider. As the hum of the machine grew louder, the enormity of what they had activated broke through the men's hate for each other, and together they raced for the slowly closing lab doors. But they were too late. The shielded doors shut and locked, the men trapped inside, as the energy within the Collider built to a crescendo. Just as the machine reached effigy, Giovanni saw that the Collider tubes had been knocked out of alignment, and with a sense of impending doom, Giovanni knew that they were about to die.

The energy escalated and exploded, filling the sealed chamber with nuclear energy as well as the same energy that had swept across the globe in The Great Burn. They had been successful in replicating the energy that could give the Italian Federacy the power to create super-soldiers, but the two scientists would die in the explosion that destroyed all the data and equipment that contained that information.

At least, that is what was supposed to happen. Instead, because of the men's proximity to each other, the two were fused into a single being of pure radiation!

Fused into one body, which is controlled by Dr. Giovanni Striscione, the mind of Immane Scemo is always with him, offering advice, trying to exert control, and generally being the proverbial devil-on-the-shoulder. When not studying their new body to separate themselves, the two bicker over control of their new body while unwillingly carrying out missions for the Papal Office.

While The Vatican denies these events they continue to utilize Fusion Burn as an enforcer for their less than pious operations.
