Origin Story

Since childhood, the human that would one day be known as Merlyn the Wise, or Merlyn Emrys as he is now called, has dreamed of a new world. A world that science and magic would meet. Where heroes of legend would live and walk among the commoners. A world where he would be among one of those standing tall as an example.

As time went on, Merlyn came to love the pulp culture of comic books and the superheroes that existed in those stories. He grew older, living a life of fantasy within his mind, day-dreaming. Until one day the unthinkable happened!!

Sylvie-Loki from Earth-TRN866 has killed He Who Remains from Earth-TRN870! The multiverse in one realm of existence has begun to unravel. Timelines and Matter begin to shift and cross from one universe to another. Chaos has begun.

Then, suddenly, space and time in another plane of existence called Earth-1, suddenly shifted, and the timelines of this realm begin to collide and merge. Personalities and people begin to change as The Flash tried to fix his mistake. A mistake that has ripped the barriers between universes.

All this could have been unnoticed, in our world, if it had stayed in their own realms of existence. But then it came to ours.

Our own universe began to feel the effects from the other universes, but as changes to sanity and reality that we thought was impossible. Society in upheaval, plague, political unrest, and then, our entertainment, our escape from reality for just an hour or two, was taken from us. An actor claiming to be a Rock, used Paper to Cut past the plans and mechanisms that fans had been anticipating, just to make sure Rock was thought to be the center of a new saga of movies. And it failed spectacularly. And fans revolted. That was when our reality snapped as our mental stability reached a level that could affect the physical and cosmic, and chaos began to run rampant.

So when the sky warped, and realities from one realm collided with other realities, together crossing over, it truly felt like the End of Times had begun.

It was this moment when Merlyn Emrys's life reached a point where his dreams would become real, but not the way he thought. An old man and an angel appeared to Merlyn Emrys. Introducing himself as Axel Asher, aka Access, the old man told Merlyn Emrys that the universes were merging, but it needed a new, stronger hand to guide it and ease the flow of these timelines as realities converge.

The angel held out a spear and placed it in Merlyn's hands, saying, "I am Michael, the Archangel and this is a Battle Spear. With it you can open the divides between worlds or seal them. You can cut through Spirit, or merge them. No weapon or defense in the mortal realm, can defeat it. I am instructed to gift this to you, to weild with care and wisdom."

Old Man Axel spoke up to say, "If it had been one, or even two realities that were going through this, we would be able to handle it, but with your world in the mix, we cannot handle it alone."

Michael, the Archangel became more serious, "This will come at a cost, should you accept this role."

Old Man Axel looked sad, and his voice shook as he explained, "This will be forever. No death for you. No afterlife. This is until the end of Creation. And...you will not be completely yourself. The moment I die, you will merge with beings of infinite power from the other two realities, and, with their knowledge and wisdom and experiences, will be able to control and craft for yourself a new world. One where all three will become one."

After only a few moments of contemplating (literally only a second or two) this new path in his life, and with a simple nod, Old Man Axel saw that a decision had been made, sighed, and faded away. Immediately, Merlyn Emrys began to take on a new form as The Source and Living Tribunal joined him, together forming a new body.

Merlyn now held the very power to build a new world by recombining and controlling the merging of the three realities before they destroyed each other. And he knew exactly how he was going to do it. But there needed to be balance. To bring The Truth, to show The Way, and to renew respect for Life. He was just one person. He would need two more.

Bending multiple times and spaces, Merlyn used the Spear to tie-off some rifts between worlds while opening others wider, reaching out and gathering copies of the life energies of heroes from across the realities. Carefully creating amalgams of these souls, Merlyn formed his first two creations, granting them nigh-omnipotent powers and abilities that would put them on near-equal footings with him.

The first he gave the task of becoming the Avatar of Life. He would protect life from the evil that would try and take it, by helping create and guide others like him to join in this enormous task.

The second was tasked with being the Avatar of The Way. He would help create, guide and train other amalgams from the merging timelines, and let them be an example to the world on the true Way for living, for being, and for existing together, as a species.

Merlyn, as the Avatar of Truth, would journey throughout this world, uncovering the truth, and helping guide people, from all times, towards being true to their new selves while changing the world at the same time. Together, the three would form an immortal trinity of supreme avatars, watching, guiding, fighting and standing guard over this world, bringing such change as to send shockwaves back and forth through time.

But this process would be frought with peril and mistakes as the merging of realities was happening too fast and some new amalgams were created randomly, combining due to Chaos. For Merlyn was not the only cosmic force in action. As he strove to weave personalities and histories, another force was at work pushing, nudging, sometimes snatching threads from his hands. Characters were not being matched properly. Some seemed random as Merlyn and this opposing force fought over control, others were already merged before Merlyn could get to them. It seemed an Avatar of Chaos was at work, and was just as powerful as Merlyn.

But this world was changing. All realities had become unraveled and Merlyn had his hands full trying desperately to weave them together into a new coherent stream, while also fighting off the mechanisms of this other Avatar. But the longer he took to do so, the farther back in history the timelines frayed. Until, in a last ditch effort, Merlyn jumped to the time of the World Sundering, when the supercontinent began to break apart. After the Great Flood, the release of pressure deep within the planet caused the tectonics to begin to shift, splitting the super-landmass.

It was here that Merlyn found the timelines still intact and he began to interweave the threads of time from three universes into one. Instead of merging into his own universe, Merlyn found himself creating a new Prime Timeline. A new reality encapsulating much of the events from the separate universes.

A world where location names stayed the same. Where events that would change the names of countries, didn't.

A world that changed in all but name, for in this world, the one you call "Earth", its original name remains and its inhabitants know it as...Eden.

In the Marvel Universe, this world is referred to as Earth-9602 or Earth-962.

In the DC Universe, this world is referred to as Earth-496 or Earth-1996.

But this is your world...our world.
