Ultrasmiths

"We are from the future, and our message is grave."

From 1,500 years into the future, a team of artificial intelligence engineers downloaded themselves into their android bodies in order to survive the trip back in time where they hope to warn humanity and stop the future from happening. Though they warn of an impending apocalypse and the death of humanity, it is difficult to believe the words of a sentient machine, when their warning is of the extermination of mankind...by machines.

History

Sometime in the beginning of the 40th Century, mankind has realized too late that their robot creations have gained sentience and they had come to the conclusion: Mankind is a virus.

Over the course of years, humanity has hidden themselves away from machines, disconnecting themselves from the Global Grid that linked all electronics and information networks.

One dedicated group of scientists and engineers, along with a Think Tank of professors, military trainers, and electronic terrorists, all have been working on creating a one-way portal to the past. It was decided that warning the past about the robotic hunting of humanity could give them an advantage that those left in the present could use to turn the tide. There was just one problem.

It was concluded pretty early in the work that time travel like this would kill any organic material. Therefore, android bodies were designed in order to house the minds of those who would be sent back in time. The irony of this was not lost on them. The challenge would be to build solitary android bodies without connecting them to any wireless network as Mechas (as robotic beings were called) could hack in and find them.

In total, 15 android bodies were created, each was given a nickname for reference. There was one for each area of expertise that would be sent back in order to convince humanity of the truth. But Fate would have different plans.

As news came in of an a robotic squad coming close to their hidden laboratories, the human resistance decided they could not wait any longer and commanded the team of scientist, the Ultrasmiths, to begin the downloading process. Each would completely download their entire mind into the body they had designed just for themselves.

But the robots were faster than expected and as the time portal began powering up, the robots zeroed in on the base and began their assault. The Ultrasmiths were just getting strapped in when explosions started to rock the compound. A small brick broke from the ceiling and fell, crushing in the head of Dr. Tress Groenig, fiancé of Dr. Andrew Lead, killing her instantly. As the remaining Ultrasmiths got to their android bodies, they saw that not all of them would make it.

Despite all their precautions, the android body for Dr. Andrew Lead and Dr. Isaac Tudyk had been damaged beyond repair. That left two scientist, and only one working android body, not meant for either of them, to use.

Turning to Andrew, Isaac told him to get to the past, warn humanity, and fulfill Tress's task in her memory. He then left the room and began barricading it from the outside and prepping to stall the robot squad, giving the Ultrasmiths time to complete their journey.

Dr. Andrew Lead was then forced to download his consciousness into the female android body meant for his wife. As soon as the downloads were complete, each android was ejected into a tube heading deeper into the planet and through the temporal portal leaving the future forever.

Explosives caved in the tunnel and collapsed the portal as Dr. Isaac Tudyk set off all of the failsafes, destroying the entire base in a massive explosion that was felt miles away, dying in the process as well as killing the robot infiltrators.

In present day 2058, the Ultrasmiths have arrived with their warning of the future. What they did not factor in, was what the trip through time would do to their android bodies. Each was altered in the same way, yet also different. Out of time and no longer human, with new abilities that only add to the fear others have towards them, their only hope is that they can change the future.
