While she never showed any signs of radiation damage, when Kevin was born he was already altered and his meta-mutant gland had been activated in-vitro.

After being exposed by the energy of an ancient Egyptian gem, Kevin Mason's mother, while pregnant with Kevin, became irradiated but never showed any signs of it, until Kevin was born with a meta-mutant gland already activated and in the form we see today. His meta-mutated body grants him the following powers:

Metamorphosis/Molecular Reconstruction:

He is composed of unstable molecules, which gives him the ability to shape-shift as well as to transmute his body to any of a wide variety of liquid, gas or metallic elemental compounds and form it to his will. Originally, he was limited to the elements which occur naturally in the human body. Over time, his powers became limited only by his imagination. He can alter the shapes and consistencies of these elements and combine them to form complex compounds, allowing him to transform body parts and has become a natural mimic of voices and sounds. He can change the chemical composition of his body into gas, liquid or solid states. He can also change his color, stretch, contract, extort, compress, and expand his body or give himself virtually any superhuman physical power, like:

Inodorosity: The substance that makes up his physical composition is odorless and emits no scent, making it impossible to track him by smell.
