Steven Harper was a scrappy, skinny kid who dreamed of adventure and traveling the world. As a teen he joined the Newsies, selling papers on the street to help his family with expenses. His favorite pasttime was to follow the police and watch them work and then reading about their busts in the paper the next day.

It was very obvious to his parents that Steven was drawn to law enforcement and at their earliest chance they got him a job at the local precinct of the City of New York Police Department. Steven was so happy that he did not care that they set him all kinds of menial tasks. He excelled at them all and always asked for more. Soon, because of his errands, he knew the entire layout of the precinct by heart and could recognize every officer and office staff by face or voice.

The job paid enough to not only help provide for his family, but over time, they were able to save enough for him to go to police academy at the age of 18. Steven soaked it all in and one year later he graduated a full member of the NYPD. Two years later, Steven had just made lieutenant when, on September 1^st, 1939, America went to war with Bundesrepublik Deutschland in what would be called the Second World War, and Steven Harper was drafted into the military.

Due to his experience as a police officer, Steven was placed as a military police officer. That did not last long as Steven soon proved his worth in battle when his unit was surprise attacked and more than half the officers in charge were killed. Steven gathered some men and a British Officer who was doing Intelligence work on base, Captain Kelly Alexandra Carter, and together they set out to kill or capture their attackers before they could return to base and tell the enemy where Steven's company was camped. Upon returning successfully, the small group had been named the Avengers Squadron. This was when Steven was given a new uniform and a shield, and the new moniker, Sentinel.

After the war ended, Steven returned home and gathered his fellow ex-newsies and created the Nomad Legion, a group of undercover agents around the city who could report back to their local precincts regarding any unlawful activity. With his military training and experience, as well as his Sentinel uniform and the shield he was given during the war, Sentinel made his first public appearance in the winter of 1945 as he stopped a local gang from burning down a deli. By day he patrolled the city as a police officer of the NYPD, and at night, he became Sentinel.

Slowly, members of the Nomad Legion would be replaced by younger Newsies, and, unbeknownst to Steven, the older members joined a growing underground scientific advancement program created by the government in 1942. Based in Topçambaba Mountain, Starshield Labs worked to create the next step in human evolution and technology.

In April of 1950, Steven Harper, while on patrol as a police officer watched as a police chase turned the corner and a stray bullet from the speeding bank robbers struck Steven in the chest. He was rushed to the hospital, where they managed to get the bullet out, but the damage was too severe and he was pronounced dead. As Steven's body lay there, his life-spark still slowly draining away, a group of staff members secreted him out and into the hands of the scientists at Starshield Labs. It turned out that the head scientists were the original Newsies that had helped form the Nomad Legion.

Working through the night, the scientists were able to keep Steven alive long enough to grow a cloned body for him and, just as he was fading away, they were able to transfer his mind into the body and brain of the newly cloned body. A body that was in perfect shape and had a wonder drug flowing through it, called the Cadmus Serum.

Founder and Director of the Meta-Mutant Unity Division of Starshield Labs, Sentinel acts as a liaison between Starshield Labs and the Meta-Mutant community.

Going by Steven Jacob Harper II, Sentinel is the perfect specimen of human perfection and has been enhanced to the very peak of human physical abilities. Using his enhanced abilities, along with a new Shield made during the Venezuela Revolutionary War, Sentinel makes it a habit to spend time out on the streets of New York City not only to patrol the streets, but to look for those kids who have no one to care for them, and to train them and possibly recruit them into the still-going Nomad Legion. He hopes that he can be an example to the children in an effort to make the streets safe again, and to help rebuild the community after the devastating impact of both The Quake and The Great Burn.

Artificially Enhanced Physiology:

As a clone of Steven Jacob Harper, his body was enhanced to the peak of physical prowess thanks to the Cadmus Serum, which transformed him from a dying old police officer into a "perfect" specimen of human development and conditioning. He is classified as "Enhanced Human". He possesses powers superior to any Olympic-level athlete that has ever competed. Also, the Cadmus Serum physiology is definite, meaning that if Harper chooses to live an unhealthy lifestyle, none of his powers would weaken, and the Cadmus Serum in his bloodstream will keep him in top physical form. It is theorized that if some of the serum remains in his body, it would be able to reproduce itself and sustain his abilities.

Advanced Longevity: The Cadmus Serum halts Harper's aging due to perfect cells. When Steven Harper was shot in the line of duty, he was approaching his 40^th birthday. His body died the moment they transferred his mind into his new enhanced cloned body on April 18^th, 1950. He has not aged since.

Dexterity: Peak Human: Harper's agility is amplified to the highest human potential.

_____Master Acrobat: Harper's years of extensive training and vast experience have made him a highly skilled acrobat, gymnast, and aerialist. He often utilizes these talents in combat for both evasive and offensive purposes.

Durability: Peak Human: Harper's durability is amplified to the highest human potential making him very durable. This has allowed him to survive many forms of extensive punishment throughout his career that would injure an ordinary human.

_____Peak Healing Recovery: Harper's healing speed and efficiency is enhanced to peak ability, meaning he heals faster than the average person. The white blood cells and Cadmus Serum in his body are efficient enough to fight off most microbes, foreign bodies, and other pathogens from his body, giving him a high immunity to all infections and diseases. Steven has stated his metabolism is too fast for alcohol. He is also more resistant to knockout gas and hypnotic suggestions, though not immune.

Intelligence: Gifted: Harper's mental performance is greatly enhanced allowing it to operate in the most advanced and rapid manner possible. His mind also processes information quickly, giving him an accelerated learning aptitude; for example, Quark once stated that Harper can learn and master any weapon within seconds. He possesses an eidetic/photographic memory and perfect recall, meaning he never forgets what he sees and experiences, paired with the ability to speed read, and can thereby intuitively understand what is likely going to happen and how best to deal with it. This enables him to remember any military tactic and apply it to any situation.

_____Expert Hacker: Sentinel can hack into any advanced computer systems without tippling firewalls and security.

_____Master Tactician and Strategist: Sentinel is a master accomplished strategist. He has been widely known as one of the greatest tacticians on the planet, both on and off the battlefield. He is able to formulate battle strategies and his brilliant tactical sense allows him to alter any strategy to fit the changing need of the situation. Ættfaðir has acknowledged Sentinel's tactical prowess and stated that he would follow him "through the gates of Hades".

_____Multilingual: Sentinel is fluent in English, Spanish, Japanese, German, Russian, at least some French, and some Italian. He might be proficient in other languages.

Reflexes: Peak Human: Harper's reflexes are amplified to the highest human potential, and he is said to have a reaction time ten times faster than a normal person. He has been shown to dodge gunfire from multiple shooters simultaneously.

Senses: Peak Human: Harper's senses of sight, hearing, smell, taste, and touch are enhanced to the highest limits of human potential.

Speed: Land: Peak Human: Harper can move at speeds equal to that of the absolute finest human athlete, being capable of running at a sustained 30 mph (48 kph); He was able to complete a 40-yard dash in 3.82 seconds, or a mile "in just over a minute".

Stamina: Peak Human: Harper's body automatically eliminates the excessive build-up of fatigue-producing chemicals in his muscles; giving him exceptional endurance. He could also resist the freezing cold waters of the Arctic.

Strength: Peak Human: Harper's physical strength is enhanced to the very peak of human potential, making him consistently able to sustain lifts 800 lbs (363 kg), and bench pressing 1,100 pounds (500 kg) as a warm-up. It is unclear if the 1,100 pounds stands for the full set of weights or only one half of the load. Taking into account that it was a warm-up, it can be considered that Harper is able to push his body much further.

Expert Vehicular Driver: Sentinel is highly proficient in driving cars, motorcycles, trucks, jets, tankers, helicopters, motorboats, submarines, and some types of trains and utility vehicles.

_____Master Martial Artist: Sentinel is a master of hand-to-hand combat, being extremely skilled in numerous martial arts through his training in the military and direction under various private instructors. Sentinel has stated that he is adept at every form of hand-to-hand combat known to man. He utilizes boxing, Judo, Defendu, kickboxing, Jujutsu, Tōde, Aikido, Karate, and various other forms of unarmed combat disciplines, with his gymnastics ability creating a style that suits his strengths and enables him to use his knowledge to the best of his ability. When fighting, Sentinel can use pressure points to subdue his opponents. He is one of the finest martial artists, and ultimate human combatant on Eden, which allows him to occasionally defeat foes who are masters of multiple forms or all forms of combat, such as Olympian, Requin Tigre, Vigilante, or Lady Robinpool.

_____Expert Marksman: Sentinel is a highly proficient marksman and can throw most projectile weaponry with great aim. He is also well-versed in the use of firearms, though he prefers not to use them.

_____Expert Swordsman: Sentinel is proficient with swords and staffs but is more comfortable with his Shield.

_____Master Shield Fighter: Sentinel's years of training and experience with his unique Shield, as well as its physical properties, allow him to accomplish amazing feats with the item. Aside from bashing foes and blocking incoming attacks, he can throw it with nearly perfect aim, being able to estimate its hit and rebound down to a millimeter. Sentinel can hit multiple targets with the same throw by means of ricochet and could even achieve a boomerang-like return effect, allowing him to strike enemies from behind or retrieve the Shield without objects to ricochet from.

_____Weapons Proficiency: Sentinel does not typically utilize weapons other than his Shield, but in desperate situations he wields additional weapons to ensure victory. He is proficient in wielding swords, daggers, throwing knifes, staffs, sticks, tonfa, axes, maces and even firearms.

Indomitable Will: Sentinel is a very strong-willed person. He can overcome all forms of temptation, mind control, and resist the effects of extreme pain, drugs, and toxins to a great extent. Sentinel accepts his own mortality and refuses to rob any sentient being of their freedom. Sentinel is also capable of resisting many forms of mind control.

Professional Sketch Artist: Steven Harper has great artistic skill which he developed from childhood. Harper often worked as a freelance illustrator and sketch artist even loaning his skills to the NYPD for a time before eventually becoming a police officer. He enjoys drawing and does so with his free time. He has even done some pencil work for Amalgam Comics where he drew some of his own adventures for them, as he is listed as the penciler for Amalgam Comics: Sentinel #1.

Cadmus Serum:

In order to stabilize the cloning process Starshield Labs developed a serum that would continuously reproduce in his system, metabolizing and permanently enhancing all of Harper's bodily functions to the peak of human efficiency, and is the most perfect human in existence despite being a clone.

Uniform: As Sentinel he wears a uniform of woven chain armor of industrial strength durability, and at one point is said to be bulletproof.

Utility Belt: Harper wears a utility belt containing mission-specific equipment such as a first aid kit (containing tweezers, antiseptic gel coated band aids, bone and muscle pain reliever spray cans and antidotes for some toxins), military cable, smoke grenades, lock picks, grenades, and several other materials.

Motorcycle: Sentinel rides a custom motorcycle that is fitted with a slot at the front that could store his Shield.

Shield: A concave disk about 2.5 feet in diameter, weighing 12 pounds, it was made of a unique alien-8^thbranium-Beta alloy that has never been duplicated by Eden Force. The Shield was cast by American metallurgist REDACTED, who was contracted by the U.S. government to create an impenetrable substance to use for body armor during the Venezuela Revolutionary War.

During his experiments, REDACTED combined 8^thbranium-Beta with an alloy he was working with taken from the wreckage found at Roswell in the State of Yancuic Mexico, along with an unknown catalyst; creating the disc-shaped shield. REDACTED was never able to duplicate the process due to his inability to identify the still-unknown factor that played a role in the successful merging. The Shield was issued to Sentinel by the government several months after the beginning of his career and after his original shield was destroyed.

Due to the 8^thbranium-Beta within the Shield, all kinetic energy is absorbed and cast off upon impact. The Shield has been seen taking a point-blank blast from a tank without a dent. Sentinel remarked that he did not even feel the force of the blast.

Sentinel is traditionally seen as one of the greatest heroes in the universe. He is a righteous and brave man who always wanted to see the good in people. From even before his origins as a super hero, Steven has always devoted himself to the protection of the weak and the defense of freedom and justice.

In spite of his virtues, however, Steven has been plagued by his status as man out of time. Remembering his days as a soldier in World War II, Steven worried that his idealism might be considered outdated in the modern world. Furthermore, seeing how idealized his legacy has become throughout the years, Steven sometimes believed that he might not be able to fulfill the image the world had of him. Regardless, Steven is still seen as the pinnacle of heroism and an example for everyone to follow.
