History

Written by: Joshua W. Murcray

Douglas Ambrose is one of two known meta-mutants who were born with their abilities already activated. In fact, as time went on, it has been shown that Douglas was born with an innate understanding of the full scope of his powers, and did not need to develop them, as they were at full strength from birth.

Throughout his life, Douglas yearned to travel the stars but his powers made him an outcast until 2048. On his 30th birthday, Starshield Labs approached him about a project they were developing. If he was willing to undergo extensive testing and training, they wanted to send him into space as an explorer and diplomat on behalf of Eden.

Douglas jumped at the chance to travel into space and immediately agreed to their testing and training, which involved being studying every known language on Eden. During this time he also studied the occult, history, archaeology, as well as computer science, programming and physics.

During the program, Douglas met Eve and the two became partners in every field.

The mission objectives for the two of them would be to travel to near-by planets and determine viability for colonization. Should they come into contact with alien life, if the culture was already exploring space, then First Contact would be made. If the alien life was not yet ready to explore the stars, or were considered too aggressive, then a message was sent to Eden and that planet, and system, would be placed off-limits to exploration or colonization.

Should a planet be found to be without life, but could be terraformed for colonization, then together, Adam (his codename for the mission) and Eve would use their vast powers to create an atmosphere and planetary environment that would eventually support human life. Once that task was complete and beacons were set for colony ships to land safely, the pair of them would climb aboard The Planetary and head out in search of alien friends among the stars.

Omnilingual Translation:

Adam is a hyper-linguist, and has a meta-mutant facility for translating any languages, spoken or written, human or alien in origin. His skill also extends to his great facility in deciphering codes and computer languages as well as understanding hidden intentions and body language. Adam's skills are such that he was once able to make great headway in translating the written language of an extraterrestrial race in a matter of minutes. Adam's meta-mutant talent for translating differs from the translating ability that a human who is a genius in this field, yet not a meta-mutant, possesses, even though both people might achieve the same results with any given translation problem. Adam's meta-mutant talent is an intuitive one which works on a subconscious level, whereas others will have to work out a translation consciously, step by step. Rather than working the problem out step by step, in his conscious mind, Adam instead subconsciously solves the problem. Hence, Adam can reach the correct solution by means that appear to be leaps of logic, and he himself may not have been consciously aware of the entire process by which he reaches the right answer.

Selective Physics Distortion Field:

This field enabled Adam to bend the laws of physics within limits. Adam could use the field on himself, project it over a large area of unspecified dimensions, or concentrate it onto a smaller area or object, such as another person. This includes the following Gifts:

_____Chronokinesis

_____Deflection

_____Friction Manipulation

_____Gravity Manipulation

_____Strength: Industrial

Weaknesses

Internet Addiction: After trying to use his powers to decode the Internet, Adam became addicted to being online. He let himself go and almost starved himself because he couldn't stay away from the numerous devices he was using to surf the web. His long periods of staying out in space are to help him overcome this addiction.
