History

Written by: Joshua W. Murcray

Kem-Ell Dav-Ris is a fanatic follower of The Fraternity of Purpose in order to seek out and terraform, or repurpose, another planet for his dying people. Though this went against the ethics of his world, it was a necessity as all the worlds thus discovered were not capable of sustaining life.

So the Fraternity used an ancient clone weapon to cybernetically alter their volunteers in order to be able to travel and exist on other planets in the hope that a new homeworld would be found and the follower who found it, would act as a predecessor for their people, and begin the process of altering the world to suit the needs of their race.

Kem-Ell was just one of many sent out. Connected by the Cyber-Song Data-Crystal that each housed in their cybernetic implants, each Predecessor, as they called themselves, could learn all that the others learned instantly. Sadly, this also meant that each could watch, in near real-time, the death of their fellows. One Predecessor returned to the dying homeworld in order to enact repairs only to arrive in time to watch, from space, the final implosion of their planet, a scene shared with Kem-Ell. The resulting blast caught the returning Predecessor, blowing it apart on an atomic level. Now, Kem-Ell was the last of his species, and the last Predecessor.

The cybernetic programming continued to force Kem-Ell to search for a new homeworld. The programming had taken over his thoughts and mind, so, depsite having seen the destruction of his people or their world, Kem-Ell (the person) was unaware and so his programming forced his continuing mission. Until he came upon the first habitable planet within the gravitational pull of a yellow star. Landing on the planet, he found that the world already had an indigenous race of beings, but their technology was limited to stones, metal and sticks. As he traveled across the globe the nearby suns light and radiation began to affect his organic cells. Soon his cellular alteration reached a point where it caused a malfunction in the cybernetic systems resulting in the host body to retake control.

In addition to regaining control, Kem-Ell found his body had been augmented and enhanced on a cellular level by the radiation of the yellow star. He immediately tried to contact his homeworld, only to have the memory of its destruction unlock and replay in his mind. The loss of everything: family, home, his entire race, his purpose; drove him mad and he reverted to his prime directive, to terraform and prepare. Using his new powers and his cybernetic instructions, Predecessor, as he now referred to himself, casting off his birth-name, began the process of preparing this planet for the coming of his people, whom he refused to believe were all gone.

Due to his limited understanding of the planet itself, as well as his new powers, Predecessor pushed too hard and literally broke the planet, causing the core to go into a cascading meltdown that ruptured the planet. Predecessor was caught in liquid magma that was shot into space as the planet exploded, and before he could escape, the magma cooled. Having seeped into his cybernetics and orifices, the magma had solidifed inside, trapping him in solid rock, unable to move despite his vast strength, due to the damaged cybernetics causing misfires in his nervous system.

It would be years before he finally gave up and mentally shutdown his cybernetics, hoping it would kill him. It did not, but instead, due to his enhanced cells, he entered into a catatonic state, barely kept alive by the rays of the yellow star, as his body, embedded in rock, floated among the rest of the destroyed planet, in a vast ring of asteroids in orbit around the star, which he had designated: Sol.

In recent times, as the inhabitants of the third planet in the system began to branch out, mining of the asteroid field has caused Predecessor the ability to use the vibrations from the mining machines, to cast off and expunge the rock in his body, and eventually break free. Bent on completing his mission, he approached the planet the inhabitants called, Earth, only to find a signal that should not exist. It appears his people already had established a colony on this planet!

When he approached the colony they instantly rejected him and commanded him to leave, for they blamed the destruction of their homeworld on The Fraternity of Purpose. Rejected by his own people Predecessor believes he must continue his mission in order to prove his worthiness, and to that end he continually strives to combat the defenders of this planet in an effort to one day be victorious and begin the process of terraforming Earth to be more hospitable to his people and allow them to be free from the confines of their hidden city. Unbeknownst to him, his people are content in their isolation and reject all others out of a centuries warped racism against all who are not of their kind or, like Predecessor, have become altered and no longer are "pure" members of their race, the Attikryptians.

Powers

Attikryptians Physiology:

Under the effects of a "yellow" sun, Predecessor gained powers and abilities it was not programmed to handle. due to his deep cybernetic implants, his new powers are greatly reduced in comparison to other Attikryptians, like Artemis Samson. These powers include:

Solar Energy Absorption: Under optimal conditions, this is the main source of his super powers as they are contingent upon exposure to solar radiation from a yellow sun star system. His biological make-up includes a number of organs which lack analogues in humans and whose functions are unknown. It is believed that between one or more of these and his bio-cellular matrix, "yellow" solar energy is stored for later use. This allows for the use of these powers to fade when yellow solar radiation is not available instead of immediate failure.

Cybernetic Awareness: Predecessor's programming has been enhanced in a way to make him more aware of his surroundings. The full extent of this new hardware alteration is unclear, although it has been shown that he can sense beings and gateways from alternate realities.

Energy Projection: What distinguishes Predecessor from other Attikryptians is his ability to manipulate energy. Predecessor possesses vast energy manipulation abilities, ranging from being able to absorb, convert and release various forms of energy as powerful blasts from his hands or eyes.

Enhanced Intellect: Due to his Cyber-Song Data-Crystal link to other Predecessors before they expired, Predecessor possesses extensive knowledge his homeworld, is extremely intelligent, as well as the ability to compute and process information at incredible speed.

Enhanced Vision: He also possess a superior sensory arrangement of microscopic, telescopic, infrared and ultraviolet visual capabilities. He is able to see the entire spectrum. Microscopic, chemical, x-ray, auditory, ultrasonic, magnetic, photonic, etc. Again, while his cybernetics had already granted him these abilities, his new powers have augmented their precision and distance.

Flight: He is able to manipulate graviton particles to defy the forces of gravity and achieve flight. This ranges from hovering to moving in any posture, in any direction.

Heat Vision: He can, as a conscious act, fire beams of intense heat at a target by looking at it. He can vary the heat and area affected.

Invulnerability: While his organic body can now withstand the pressures and heat of the yellow star that grants him his abilities, his cybernetic parts cannot, though they are tough enough to handle the molten core of the planet or a nuclear blast.

Mechanokinesis: As a sentient supercomputer spread out over his body, Predecessor has limitless cybernized interactive capability, being able to control and operate the vastly more advanced crystal-based nanotech computers of the Hidden City of the Kandori along with lower level technologies of Earth.

Superhuman Hearing: His hearing is sensitive enough to hear any sound at any volume or pitch. With his cybernetics, he can block out ambient sounds to focus on a specific source or frequency. While his hearing was already augmented by his cybernetics, his natural hearing ability now allows him to hear sounds at a substantially increased distance.

Superhuman Speed: He is not as fast as Flair, but he can achieve faster than light speed under his own power in space.

Superhuman Stamina: He is able to maintain continuous strenuous physical action for an indefinite period of time. This is based on his body converting yellow solar radiation directly to energy, but is limited by cybernetic implants needing recharging or maintenance.

Superhuman Strength: His strength is augmented by yellow solar radiation interacting with the greater than Attikryptians density, resilience and biological efficiency of his musculature. His strength is more an act of conscious will on energy fields than actual physical strength. It is this act of conscious will that enables him to perform physical feats that are beyond the mere application of force, such as moving a boulder without said rock crumbling under its own mass.

Predecessor Cybernetic Bodysuit:

The cybernetics implanted throughout his body, including his bodysuit, allow him many advanced abilities. While his organic body now has been empowered, his cybernetics still have some enhancements that are unique to his system. Some of these enhancements include:

Armament Conjuration: The cybernetic suit and implants can alter their configuration to create weapons, or manifest desired munitions from its own body at will, using a form of advanced 3D printing from gathered molecules in the atmosphere.

Self Repair: Even major injuries to his organic body can be repaired using nanites, though the time it takes is dependent on the severity of the injury.

Force Field: The cybernetics allow him to utilize a circular wafer-thin force field.

Mode Shifting: All Predecessor cybernetics can morph their components into a host of augmentative forms. Becoming transparent, doubling body armor, projecting greater weaponry, etc.

Weaknesses

Power Limitation: Predecessor cannot see through lead with his vision powers.

Unusual Radiation: A specific type of radiation that seems to emit only from pieces of his exploded homeworld are extremely dangerous to him and his people, even to being lethal with extended exposure.
