History

Written by: Joshua W. Murcray

Micahel Rominoff was a scientist born in Sighișoara, România in 1431 and would become a Nobel Prize winning biochemist in modern times, but not because of his "good" works. In his early life he suffered from a debilitating blood disease and developed an experimental treatment involving vampire bats and electroshocks harnessed from lightning during the storms. Nothing seemed to work until he came across a vial of blood at an alchemist shop that was reputed to be the blood of Vlad the Impaler. That was when his potion altered him, turning him into a living vampire.

*Animal Transformation*

Unique Physiology:

Vampirism: Count Drakul Morbius has been transformed into a being similar to a vampire and, as a result, possesses a number of superhuman abilities similar to those possessed by true vampires. Count Drakul Morbius is not a true vampire as the source of his transformation is scientific, not mystical. However, mystical elements have occasionally been introduced into his system, complicating the issue. For the rest of this profile he will be considered to be a vampire to avoid confusion.

Immortality: So long as vampires continue to consume blood, they will not age beyond the physical state they were in when they first became a vampire.

Immunity To Most Vampire Vulnerabilities: As Count Drakul Morbius is not a supernatural vampire, he is immune to all of the special mystical vulnerabilities that they have. He is unaffected if confronted with religious icons like crucifixes and will not incinerate if exposed to direct sunlight. Count Drakul Morbius does tend to rest during the hours of the day, but does not have any of the consequences of vampirism that supernatural vampires face during the daylight hours. Count Drakul Morbius also has no special vulnerability to objects or weapons composed of silver, or wooden stakes driven through his heart.

Invulnerability: Vampires are invulnerable to most forms of injury (certain exceptions apply). Bullets, blades and blunt objects do little to no damage to a vampire's body.

Mesmerism: Count Drakul Morbius gained the ability to hypnotize others if they look directly into his eyes long enough. While under his control, Count Drakul Morbius typically has full control over an individual. If an individual has sufficient willpower, they can resist or overcome this power.

Metamorphosis: Vampires often demonstrate the ability to alter their appearance at will.

Psionic Gliding: Through mental concentration, Count Drakul Morbius is able to glide through the air over short distances. However, Count Drakul Morbius can only glide at speeds of about 35 miles an hour.

Psychokinesis: Most vampires possess some form of psychokinesis. Some are clairvoyant, others can communicate telepathically, some possess mind control. Particularly powerful vampires can control the minds of several people at once.

Regenerative Healing Factor: Like true vampires, Count Drakul Morbius possesses an accelerated healing factor that enables him to rapidly regenerate damaged bodily tissues much faster and more extensively than a normal human. Injuries such as gunshots, slashes, and severe burns heal within hours or minutes, depending upon their severity. Though highly developed, Count Drakul Morbius' healing powers are not sufficient to regenerate missing limbs or organs.

Superhuman Acute Senses: Count Drakul Morbius' senses of sight and smell are enhanced to levels well beyond that of normal humans. Count Drakul Morbius is able to detect objects with perfect clarity at much greater distances than a normal human. He retains this clarity, even in near-total darkness. He is also able to see into the infra-red end of the electromagnetic spectrum, allowing him to see individuals at night by their body heat. His sense of smell is similarly enhanced, able to detect the scent of blood in the air from miles away.

Agility: Enhanced: Count Drakul Morbius' agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete.

Reflexes: Enhanced: Count Drakul Morbius' reflexes are similarly enhanced and are superior to those of the finest human athletes.

Land Speed: Superhuman: Count Drakul Morbius can run and move at speeds that are beyond the natural physical limits of the finest human athlete.

Stamina: Superhuman: So long as they continue to consume human blood, a vampire can function tirelessly without rest or relaxation. Count Drakul Morbius' enhanced musculature produces less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the musculature of a normal human. He can physically exert himself at peak capacity for several hours before the build up of fatigue toxins in his blood begins to impair him.

Strength: Enhanced: A vampire's strength level is several times that of a normal human being and they are considered superhuman. Count Drakul Morbius possesses superhuman strength (the extent of which depends on the amount of blood he has ingested and the type of blood). At his peak, Count Drakul Morbius possesses sufficient superhuman strength to lift approximately 1,500 lbs.

Transformation: Vampires often possess the ability to transform into a variety of creatures or effects such as bats, wolves, rats or even mist. While their physical attributes may fluctuate during such states, a vampire's mental acuity is the same as that when they are in their human shape. A vampire who transforms into an animal may also benefit from that particular animal's attributes including razor-sharp claws, fangs or the ability to fly.

Vampire Creation: In addition to the various mental and physical benefits that vampires are heir to, they also possess the ability to turn others into vampires as well. Each new vampire is traditionally subservient to the one who "turned" them, but some strong-willed vampires have been known to rebel against their masters. Like true vampires, Count Drakul Morbius is able to transform individuals into pseudo-vampires like himself by draining them of all their blood. Count Drakul Morbius has control over the pseudo-vampires he creates, just as supernatural vampires have mental control over the vampires they create. The vampires that Count Drakul Morbius creates possess superhuman strength but do not possess accelerated healing factors. Upon receiving lethal injuries, their bodies turn to dust.

Weapons

Fangs & Claws: Like supernatural vampires, Count Drakul Morbius possesses elongated canines that he uses to pierce the flesh of other beings for the purpose of consuming their blood. Count Drakul Morbius can also, however, use his fangs as weapons in very close combat situations. He also possesses a single retractable claw at the tip of each finger. The claws are very sharp, capable of rending human flesh and bone with ease.

Weaknesses

Hunger: The one true weakness Count Drakul Morbius has that supernatural vampires possess is that he must ingest fresh blood several times a week in order to maintain his physical and mental vitality. The longer he goes without blood, the weaker he becomes and the more likely he is to lose control.

Mental Instability: Count Drakul Morbius has suffered through suicidal ideas on multiple occasions, desiring to end his "unlife" when unable to cure himself of his condition. He has also been shown to suffer through visual and auditory hallucinations representing his hunger when he goes without feeding.

Sunlight: While he can not be killed by sunlight, his eyes and skin are sensitive to exposure to sunlight.
