Star Trek: Deep Space 9 Unused Script

Okay, so this isn't official. This is a sample of a script that I wrote for the Season Premier of Season 7 of ST: DS9. I was hoping to finish it in time to send it in...but then LIFE got in the way and I wasn't able to complete it in time. That and they announced which actress would be taking over Dax's role in the show.

Since I believe that no work should not have its day in the sun. Therefore, I give you a really novice level sample of a my script. Please don't judge me.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

Opening scene is in Quarks where we see Garak join Dr. Bashir at a table. Bashir seems gloomy.

Garak:
So, doctor, today is the big day, hmm?

Bashir looks around quizzically:
What day might that be, Garak?

Garak's eyes go wide:
Why, the day young Dax's replacement arrives! I'm surprised you had forgotten so quickly!

Bashir:
No one can replace Jadzia.

Garak:
Oh, I quite agree. She was very good when it came down to a good fight. However,
(he looks slyly at Bashir)
I did find her taste in men to be...how should I put this...somewhat...lacking?

Bashir starts to speak but is interrupted by his Comm beeping.

Kira's voice comes over the Comm channel:
Dr. Bashir, could you come to Landing Pad C?

Bashir presses his Comm Badge:
I'm on my way.
(Turning to Garak as he stands)
Excuse me please, Garak, but we'll have to continue our conversation a little later.

Garak nods and watches Bashir leave.

At the landing pad Kira, Odo, and Worf are already there.

Kira turns to see Bashir arriving: Good, you're here.
(Turns to face door as it opens)
Let's give a proper greeting.

Worf speaks gruffly and in a low tone:
The captain should have been here. He should not have left.

Kira:
Well, he did and we have to cover for him until he has worked things out.

Siskos voice comes through the door as he steps out with Jake in tow, both are smiling:
And I have!

Everyone bursts into smiles and Kira reaches out to welcome Sisko:
Welcome back, Emissary!

Odo:
It is good to see you again, Captain.

Sisko:
It's good to be seen! Jake and I brought someone with us.
(He turns and gestures to the blue & gray uniformed man behind him)
I'd like to introduce our new science officer, Lieutenant Commander Garryth Williams.

Garryth steps out into the corridor to stand next to Jake. Standing with him is an obviously pregnant woman.

  • Kira clasps her hands behind her and nods her head: Welcome to DS9, Commander.
  • Garryth:
Thank you. I'm just sorry that I'm coming here on such bad terms.
    (Turns to pregnant woman)
This is my wife, Laura, and our upcoming son, Cameron.
  • Kira turns to begins the introductions:
Let me introduce the senior staff. I'm Major Kira Narise,
    (pointing at Odo)
    this s Constable Odo...
  • Garryth interrupts her and begins sto speak excitedly:
    Odo?! The Changeling?!
  • Odo looks perplexed:
That's right. Have you heard of me?
  • Garryth practically shouts:
    Yes!
(he steps forward to grasp Odos shoulders)
    I'm your brother!
(He pulls Odo into a hug while Odo looks around at his stunned comrades with a shocked look).
  • Fade Out

    Fade In

In the Conference Room we see Sisko, Kira, Nog, O'Brien, and Worf seated around the table.

    Sisko:
It was only a few days ago that Commander Williams and his wife came into the restaurant. They introduced themselves and handed me the PADD with his transfer orders. That was the first I had ever heard of him. I did some more checking and, even though Starfleet vouches for him, his file is so closed up that even the Head of Starfleet has restricted access to it.

Odo and Bashir walk in at this time. Odo moves over to sit next to Kira.

Sisko raises an eyebrow at Bashir:
    Well?

    Bashir:
Well, his wife is definitely pregnant, but not like anything I've ever seen before.
    (He looks over at Odo)
However, he was right. He is Odo's "brother".

O'Brien looking back and forth between Odo and Bashir:
    So, wait, he's a changeling?!

    Odo:
Yes, it appears Lieutenant Commander Williams was one of the lost infant changelings.

    Worf:
    Is he a spy?

    Odo:
If he is, he's the worst one I've ever seen.

    Sisko:
Whatever he is, his papers and background have been cleared. He is a Starfleet officer.

    O'Brien:
Hold on! If he is a changeling and his wife is pregnant, than is she a changeling as well?

    Bashir:
    Actually, no. She's fully human.

    O'Brien:
    Then how..
    (flustered and embarrassed)
What I mean to say is...

    Kira interrupts:
    How could she be pregnant?

O'Brien looks relieved and looks at Kira:
    Thank you.

    Odo:
That also puzzled me. So I asked...
    (gestures toward Bashir)

    Bashir:
..me and I ran a few tests. A couple of questions came up about...
    (gestures at Odo)

    Odo:
...the make-up of my cells. But to answer them I had to donate a couple of drops to see if our theory was right.

    Bashir:
And it was. Apparently one microscopic drop from a changeling, while in its gelatinous state, has all the basic genetic codes you would need to "create" another changeling.

    Sisko:
So you're saying is using the same process we use, the commander and his wife are going to be parents. Interesting.

    Bashir nods:
The first recorded merging of a solid and a changeling.

    O'Brien:
    How long before she delivers?

    Bashir:
I can't tell. Laura says that she got pregnant no more than a month ago, but at the rate the baby is growing I'd give it another 4 to 6 weeks before she's due. But, again, this is a new lifeform and totally unpredictable.

    Bashir continues:
The good news is Laura has told me that she is in constant mental contact with her baby.

    Worf:
    A telepath?

    Bashir:
No, not exactly. It has to do with the Great Link.

    Odo:
It seems the baby is able to Link with his mother.

    O'Brien:
You said, "his." You know the gender already?

    Bashir:
Again, no. "His" mother told me that "he" informed her of his gender.

    Odo:
But changelings have no gender. Only a more desirable form, usually chosen based on the gender of the first solid we come into contact with.

    Sisko:
Those questions will have to be answered later. It's time to get back to work. Just remember
    (looking at each of them)
Commander Williams IS Starfleet and a member of our staff. And, until we hear otherwise, we will treat him accordingly. Agreed?
    (Everyone nods)
    Then let's get moving!

    Everyone stands to leave.

Scene change to Security. Odo is sitting at his desk reading a PADD. Garryth walks in and stands in the room looking around. Odo looks up, puzzled.

    Odo:
Can I help you with anything, Commander?

    Garryth holds up a hand:
    No, no.
    (Pauses)
    Actually, it's yes and no.

    Odo:
    I don't think I understand.

    Garryth sighs:
    It's complicated. You see,
    (starts pacing back and forth)
being a changeling makes it hard to decide who to trust.
    (stops and smiles)
    Except my wife, of course.
(Back to the chair and sits)
What I'm trying to say is that...
(looks up and makes eye contact)
I need, desperately, to Link with you, Odo.

    Odo sits there looking stunned.

    Fade Out

    Fade In

Odo is shocked wth Garryth's request.

    Odo:
    You...what?

    Garryth is embarrassed:
I know it sounds weird as you and I just met, but you are the first changeling that I believe I can trust. I've linked with my wife, but she's a solid.
(sighs and straightens up. In a calm voice)
Another reason for this is an exchange of information. You've Linked with our people and, as you can see, my form is more detailed than yours. I suggest we Link in an attempt to help each other out. You would get a better grasp of the humanoid form and I'll get more information and something akin to first-hand experience with the Dominion.
(he stops and looks at Odo)
What do you say, Odo? Do we have a deal?

Odo is hesitant and answers slowly:
I don't know. To be frank, I'll have to think about this.

    Garryth is disappointed:
I see. Well...you will let me know when you decide?

    Odo:
    I will.

Odo and Garryth both stand. As Garryth heads toward the door he stops and turns back to Odo.

    Garryth:
Odo I know this is a big deal. I know that trusting another changeling will be hard for you. But I promise you. I mean no harm to you or anyone in this station. You have my word on that.

Odo nods in acknowledgement. Garryth turns and leaves.

Scene switched to Odo and Kira sitting at a table in the Holodeck at dinner.

    Odo:
...and I believed him! I don't know how to explain what made me feel that way. I guess I know what it was like to not have felt the Great Link. I just don't know if I could open myself up to someone I just met.

    Kira:
It's a strange offer, but on the other hand you'll be able to learn more about him and his past that, as of right now, only you can get answers to. I would have a hard time coming up with a decision. But I do know that this has to be your decision.

Odo grimaces, but nods his head.

    Kira:
I'm sorry, but if it's any consolation, I know you'll make the right decision.

Kira leans forward and the two of them exchange a brief kiss over the dinner table.

Scene switches to the Bajoran Temple onboard DS9. A priest closes the doors on a blackened Orb.

    Sighing he steps back.

As he does we can hear him utter the phrase: Please come back soon, Prophets.

The prest then sets the forcefield around the alcove and walks out, turning the lights down as he leaves.

Camera pans back to the Orb alcove and we see the floor in front of the Orb, but behind the shielding start to ooze and move. It grows and slowly becomes the form of Garryth kneeling in front of the Orb. Garryth opens the Orb box to gaze upon the oily Orb.

    Garryth looks grim:
I've done what you wanted and gotten you here. I'm not a Bajoran and you know it so let's get this over with, shall we?

Garryth reaches out and grabs the Orb. As he does his eyes turn glowing blue and his hands liquify, completely covering the Orb. The Orb and his "hands" are drawn back into his body. Soon the hands and arms reemerge and reform, but they are empty. Garryth closes his eyes for a moment and when he opens them they are back to normal.

    Garryth:
That was unpleasant. I hope the taste goes away soon.
    (Looking down at his body)
This better not last very long.

Garryth turns and faces the wall. One hand rests against the wall and oozes into the wall cracks. After a few seconds the shield controls on the other side of the wall are deactivated and the shield comes down. Garryth steps out and reforms his hand. Almost instantly the shields are back up. Garryth walks out calmly from the temple.

    Fade Out

    Fade In

Scene opens in Sisko's office. Sisko, Odo, Worf, O'Brien, and Kira are all standing around the desk.

    Sisko is angry:
    They what?

    Odo:
    It gets worse.

    Worf:
Whoever stole the Orb was able to disable the shield.

    O'Brien:
I checked the circuitry and couldn't find any tampering. The only thing I could think of is that whoever did this had access to the voice activated codes.

    Worf:
    And that's not all.

    Kira is surprised:
    There's more?!

    Odo nods:
According to the security logs the shield was only turned off once. For two seconds.

    Worf:
Which means that the thief was either extremely fast or already inside with the Orb.

    Sisko:
Constable, I want this thief found and I want him now! If or when the Prophets come back, I want that Orb ready for them. Dismissed.

Odo, O'Brien, and Worf leave, but Kira stays behind.

    Sisko, sensing something wrong:
    What is it, Major?

    Kira is distracted and upset:
Sir...Emissary, the council called me this morning.
(Sisko groans and sinks deeper into his chair)
I know it's difficult for you to be expected to have all the answers, however...
    (she trails off)

    Sisko in a soft voice:
They want to know if I've "heard" anything from the Prophets. I know. I just wish I had an answer, Major. I really do.

Kira nods and then changes the subject:
    Has Odo told you yet?

    Sisko:
Of the Commanders offer? Yes, though to tell you the truth I'm a little surprised.

    Kira:
    Why is that?

    Sisko:
Starfleet told me, in no uncertain terms, that any information Mr. Williams had was confidential and classified, and that he and only he could decide if anyone else needed to know any of it. Now he goes and offers everything he knows to someone he just met.

    Kira:
Do you think he could be a Founder trying to find out how best to damage the station?

    Sisko:
No, they've already done enough damage. Although the theft of the Orb leaves me quite a mystery. Besides, Odo told me that Williams poses no threat to us or this station, so...
    (leaves it hanging)

    Kira:
You'll forgive me if I hold onto my doubts about him.
    (Pauses)
There is something that gives me hope...

Scene switches to Quark's bar. We see Quark and Jake Sisko with their heads together.

    Quark looks puzzled:
    ...his wife?

    Jake is excited:
Yes! Don't you see? If a changeling and a solid can have a baby, than Kira can have what she's been wanting for a while now!

Quark looks shocked as it finally dawns on him:
A baby! That's right. And if Odo becomes a father, maybe he'll loosen up a bit.
(He gets a dreamy look on his face and starts to whisper)
Maybe even become an old softy like the chief. Thank of all the deals...
    (inhales excitedly)

    Jake shakes his head:
Whatever. Just think. This could be the start of a whole new species! And it could all begin right here!

    Quark dismissing Jake:
Yeah, sure, excuse me, I've some planning to do.

    Jake becomes interested:
What are you going to do? Odo hasn't even decided yet.

    Quark acts innocent:
I'm just going to make sure Odo decides to do what's right for the Major.

    Jake frowns:
You mean, do what's right for you?

    Quark waves him off:
I'm only trying to help a dear friend out.

Quark turns and walks away humming to himself. Jake just shakes his head and turns back to his drink and PADD and begins to write.

That's all I've got for now.

What I had in mind for this story was to have the new changeling, LT. Com. Williams, be the "host" body of the prophets. They had chosen to "reside" within him as other Founders would never try to harm him due to their code. The Orb he stole would be the Orb of Time and the Prophets were going to use it to travel back and prevent the Pah-Wraiths from shutting the wormhole down. As a reward the Prophets not only gave him better control of his forms, but also allowed him the ability to breed with a solid and to share that information with other changelings.

This idea would also spark the possibility that Jadzia Dax could be brought back to life, having never died, and she and Worf could have that baby they wanted. And, as a reward for a job he doesn't remember doing, the Prophets would allow Williams to still have the knowledge mentioned above.

    That is all IDEA #1.

    IDEA #2 Was...

After the wormhole reopens, a trader from the Gamma Quadrant brings a relic that he had stolen from a mysterious planet. Garak is interested and buys the relic. After some checking in the logs of the trader (logs Garak stole), Garak discovers that the relic can truly grant a single wish. It has the ability to warp/alter space/time. But only once. Word leaks out around the station, but Garak manages to protect the relic before someone uses it for the war or anything else. After seeking advice from Bashir and even Sisko, Garak finally decides on a wish.

The final scene can be of Garak closing his eyes, making a wish, and then opening is eyes. In an expression of astonishment and tenderness he rises from his seat and kneels by the couch in Sisko's office where the rest of the senior staff were there to witness this wish.

On the couch is Xial, daughter of Dukat, asleep, unharmed.

I wrote that IDEA because I felt it was wrong of the show to kill off Xial. She and Garak were in love. It didn't stop or really hurt Dukat, but it was so painful for Garak. So I wanted to try to bring her back...even if only in my head.

Those are my IDEAS and a sample of a script I wrote. Not well, but I tried.

    IMAGINATION

    Now...About Those Transformers

In a previous article I wrote about how an idea can capture me, lead me into a long project, and then leave me high-n-dry with no way of actually implementing the idea.

Today I would like to talk about another idea that has stayed with me and been a constant source of irritation.

This new idea occurred right after watching the first Transformers live-action movie (not the 1986 animated one). In that movie (which GMC paid to be the major sponsor of) all the Autobots became GMC vehicles (well, except maybe Optimus Prime).

    FANTASY

    Return With Me To Valdemar

If you haven't known this about me before you will soon realize that I love science-fiction and fantasy stories.

One of my favorite authors is Mercedes Lackey. Her series, called Heralds of Valdemar series, is one of my all-time favorite series!

I’ve read all of them at least twice...some more than that.
