According to Foundation the months are named based on the season and the moon: Midwinters Moon, Ice Moon, Thawing Moon, Budding Moon, and Flowering Moon.
Mercedes Lackey has stated that New Years begins on the 1st day of the Midwinter Moon.

- During the wedding feast Kerowyn decides to leave and go join her grandmother, Kethryveris' and Tarma's school for training.

- Kerowyn has been chopping wood for three days now in an effort to build muscles and strengthen her arms, back, shoulders and aim.

Alberich is asked by Talamir and Dethor to train new agents to infiltrate Karse for information. Alberich agrees only if there is a way to train them to be protectors of Karsites as well as spies. Talamir and Dethor agree and Alberich “lends” his memories, with the help of Mindhealer Crathach, to four Heralds. Herald Orven, Herald Laika, eighteen-year-old Herald Wethes, and one other older Herald are all volunteers for this treatment. This is the first time Alberich meets Mindhealer Crathach.

She leaves the palace grounds to get away, but Karathanelan and his friends follow and try to kill her. Weaponsmaster Herald Alberich and his combat team are alerted and rush to the scene.

Heraldic-trainee Mical, Chosen by Companion Eloran, is fifteen years old when he saves Queen Selenay’s life by toppling her closest attacker to the ground, breaking the man’s neck and fracturing his own arm. Next Day Using some fancy verbal footwork, Kerowyn is able to convince those that heard her at the tavern, that she had misheard a lot of the information she spewed as having got from them. After this Kerowyn vows to not get drunk again nor to drink alcohol at all.

Karsite bandits overrun the winter quarters of the mercenary company, The Hooters, killing all the civilians. The Hooters were out putting down a rebellion in Ruvan and were not even near Karse.

During a really bad rainy season, Kerowyn's packhorse that is carrying Need, drowns while crossing a flood-swollen river. Kerowyn collapses and manages to tell the Comapny Healer about her bond with Need. The entire Company goes in search of the sword and manages to find before sunset of that same day.

The Skybolts are working with three other mercenary companies, all hired by the Menmellith Council: Bornams Bastards, Jeffrey's Wolflings, and.

Shallan mentions that Captain Lerryn Two-Blades refuses to put green recruits into the field.

Captain Lerryn announces that the companies will be making a push on the Karsite bandits and the SKybolts are to pack up and be ready to leave.

Panic ensues as word reaches the Skybolts that the bandits were Karsite regular army and that Karse had sent a real army to close in behind the mercenaries and catch them in a pincer move.

Sunset Lerryn divides the Skybolts in half in order to throw pursuers off the trail. Shallan, hedge-wizard Tarres, and Relli go with Lerryn while Kerowyn the second in command, Icolan Ar Perdin.

Later that night Kerowyn's group split twice more during the night trek along the Karsite border. The leader of the twenty Skybolts left in Kerowyns group is a colorless woman known as Lyr. Another member of the group is a man named Tobe. They decide to cross the border into Karse in the hopes the army will think they are Karsite bandits and leave them alone.

Several Days Later Kerowyn and Eldan are near the Valdemar border when they find a small village with a enormous Sunpriest temple. They decide to stop for the day (since they travel at night) and camp under some low-hanging pine trees.
