History of Velgarth
813 AF
---♔ Reign of King Treven & Queen Jisa ♕---
- Bard Stefen tries to commit suicide in the Forest of Sorrows, but is stopped by the ghost of Vanyel Ashkevron. He is given a task to perform before he can come join Vanyel Ashkevron as a ghost in the Forest of Sorrows. Stefen is nineteen (19) at this time

809 AF
- At the Collegium, Master Bard Breda and Master Healer Gavin are concerned about twins, Bard-trainee Rhiannon and Healer-trainee Dionne. They are very interdependent; in weapons training, they cannot win against anyone in a one-on-one fight, but together they can beat any other pair of other students. For their internships, the twins must be separated, but the Masters decide that in addition, they will be sent in opposite directions.
- Moving Targets: The Power of Three
- All of Valdemar’s Bards are implementing Bard Stefen’s mission to spread the word that Heralds are as good as Herald-Mages. Bard-Trainee Rhiannon and her mentor Lleryn head towards the Karse border, where they will meet up with Herald Deckert. Rhiannon's identical twin Dionne and her mentor, Journeyman-Healer Mari, head north on their routine circuit.
- Moving Targets: The Power of Three
- The Gifts of Rhiannon and Dionne weaken more and more as their travels take them further apart, until they are no better at their work than a non-Gifted person.
- Moving Targets: The Power of Three
- A man comes to the bard pair’s campsite, telling Rhiannon he is Deckert. Despite her weak talent Rhiannon plays some songs for him, including one she wrote about her twin and how much she misses her. When Rhiannon’s mentor Lleryn wakes up, she knows the man is an imposter.
- Moving Targets: The Power of Three
- Dionne’s Healing Gift has become so ineffectual that she has been reduced to making and distributing herbal cures. Her mentor, Journeyman Mari, is doing the work of two and becoming resentful.
- Moving Targets: The Power of Three
- Rhiannon and Lleryn are caught by an immobility spell cast by the imposter, a mage named Lompaux of Greylorn.
- Moving Targets: The Power of Three
- Dionne is suddenly stricken by the knowledge that her twin is suffering and in danger, and insists on going after her. Mari is angry but Dionne becomes increasingly distraught. Mari refuses to set off towards Rhiannon’s location, but finally agrees to return to Haven to report.
- Moving Targets: The Power of Three
Two Days Later
- Officials at Haven think Dionne’s report is ridiculous, but are unable to contact or locate Rhiannon and Lleryn with any kind of mind magic. Herald Ciena and the real Herald Deckert set off with Dionne, who can sense her twin’s location due to their close connection. Her lack of a Companion slows their pace considerably; they are limited to her horse’s speed.
- Moving Targets: The Power of Three
- Rhiannon and Lleryn are mystified by their captivity. The castle and its grounds are beautiful but there are very few servants, not enough to maintain it all. The only thing Lompaux wants is to hear the Twins song, over and over again, but is aware of any attempt by Rhiannon to use her Bardic Gift to influence him.
- Moving Targets: The Power of Three
Four Days Later
- As the rescue party reaches the Karse border, they realize two things. First, something is blocking their Gifts from seeing Rhiannon and Lleryn, but Dionne’s connection to her twin remains unaffected. Secondly, Dionne’s sense informs them that Rhiannon and Lleryn are just across the border in Karse.
- Moving Targets: The Power of Three
- Rhiannon and Lleryn consult together and decide that Rhiannon should use her music to match Lompaux’s mood and then select other songs to slowly move it to a different emotion.
- Moving Targets: The Power of Three
- The rescue party cautiously crosses into Karse and follows Dionne’s instincts towards the castle.
- Moving Targets: The Power of Three
- Lompaux finally breaks down and trusts Rhiannon. Still playing her music, she leads him out of the castle and down the road where she can sense her twin approaching with the Heralds.
- Moving Targets: The Power of Three
- The two parties meet and Lompaux is captured. When they return to the castle for Lleryn, they find it is much diminished. Lompaux’s illusions made it much bigger and nicer than it was.
- Moving Targets: The Power of Three
- The lesson learned is that now that the Herald-Mages are gone, the power of all three branches of the Gifted, Healers, Bards and Heralds, will need to work together for the good of Valdemar.
- Moving Targets: The Power of Three

812 AF
- Bard Rhiannon and her twin, Healer Dionne come across a strange walled-in town that initially denies them admittance. There are no women and children around, and when they find them in hiding, they are bruised and have been abused. After Rhiannon is poisoned and Dionne exhausts herself healing her, Rhiannon has to flee to bring back help.

---♔ Reign of King Chalinel ♔---
- 📚Hypothesis: Chalinel may be the son of King Teren and Queen Jisa, as well as father of Tanivel, Lavenna, Alain, Alara, Kristen, Kole and Katen and 5 more. Elspeth is specified as Alain’s great-great grandmother, so she’s Chalinel’s great-grandmother, Treven’s unnamed dad is his grandfather, Treven is Chalinel’s father. Chalinel has 12 kids, any brother could never get the throne off him. So Kyril would have to be one of his unnamed children, and Chalinel’s Heir Tanivel (Vel) would have to die (and possibly his twin sister Vixen as well?) in order for Kyril to inherit, also assuming he is the next-oldest son.. In this scenario, Jisa might have had Chalinel as early as 809-810. By 828 he is old enough to start fathering children. Felice pops them out in multiples so she has only 5 pregnancies. If her youngest, Alain, was born in 833 (yikes), he could be 16 in 849, while Chalinel still reigns. The only issue with this scenario is it leaves Kyril with 10 siblings running around, unless they all went off and died at a Karse war

869 AF
- Bard Stefen is eighty (80) years old when he finally arrives in the Forest of Sorrows to die and join Vanyel Ashkevron.
- Hypothesis: It is said he is a old man and since Savil lived to be eighty, there is no reason why Stefen could not have lived as long. It is a nice round figure.
- Magic’s Price: Epilogue

942 AF
- Herald Alain, youngest son of King Chalinel, is on his internship circuit around Lake Evendim. While working to defend fishing villages against raiders, he is captured. Using his gift of Animal Mindspeech he calls for help, and the denizens of the deep save the day.
- At this time, Chalinel is King of Valdemar alongside his Consort, Felice. Some of their children include: Crown Prince Tanivel "Vel" and his twin, Princess Lavenna "Vixen"; Princess Alara and her twin brother Prince Alain, and the triplets Princess Kristen, Katen and Prince Kole. There are five other children, unnamed: a set of triplets and a set of twins.
